about
Gretchen Bauer - designer
I came to landscape design later in life, bringing skills developed through life's experiences. Loving nature as a child I pursued an undergraduate degree in biology, but after working for professors in laboratories I changed my major to Apparel Design and Manufacturing. As a pattern maker in the garment industry, I worked collaboratively with designers and manufacturers, problem solving to bring clothing designs to fruition. While teaching pattern making at Seattle Central Community College I developed a love of sharing ideas and mentoring students. When my child started school, I volunteered at Seattle Public Schools in a parent garden group. After organizing the renovation of a long neglected central garden, landscape design requests began and g bauer design was born. Landscape design has brought many of my skills and interests together, and I feel fortunate to share these with clients.
Membership in the following organizations helps me keep current on best practices in horticulture and construction - WALP, Washington Association of Landscape Professionals, APLD, Association of Landscape Designers and NHS, Northwest Horticulture Society.
